Soli Deo gloria – VIII

When disaster strikes

in our infinitely tiny world;

the loss of love, a broken home

an illness or financial loss.

We must be reminded that

our world is minuscule – a speck of dust

We would be wise to

turn our eyes to You

so that our blindness may

be lifted, our focus shifted:

Disaster is relative.

Disaster is magnified by our:

self-centered, egocentric

idolatry, insincere flattery

Disaster is magnified by our:

instant gratification,

status hungry junky,

like-like dopamine dupe

Disaster is magnified by:

“What is in it for ME?”

and the ultimate lowercase i

When we realise that our lens

is blurred by the short term –

Biased by our finite lifespan on earth.

When we place our lives

on God’s immeasurable scale;

we discover the eternal

perspective

on everyday life

and so, our DISASTER

becomes…

absurd. illogical. silly. irrational.

Soli Deo gloria – VII

Seven

Praise the Lord for Light;

for the Stone of hope

for the reality of Your Son

Praise the Lord for Your Blood;

that was shed to reconcile

poured onto a Cross

Praise the Lord for our Church;

for the communion of followers

who bow down at Your feet

Praise the Lord for renewed reality;

that the broken world

will be restored one day

Praise the Lord for relationship;

that we do not journey alone

that we are never alone

Praise the Lord for reconciliation;

that You pursue us

with everlasting joy

Soli Deo gloria – VI

Six

When the battles around us threaten peace

we can be assured that the holy King is at ease

For He has a plan; You are sovereign

You reign over all the earth

over each and every star

When we feel downtrodden – our eyes sodden

We can rest assured that we are not forgotten

You cradle us in Your arms

whether we are defeated or victorious

there is no line in the sand which we cannot cross

You are the constant in the variable world;

in fact the one who chases after us

Glory be to You and You alone

Soli Deo gloria – IV

Four

You are in the whispers of the wind

In the smile of a loved one

You are in the grains of sands

You are in the constellations overhead

Your creativity and beauty can be found

In the darkest and most forsaken places

Your righteousness can be found in:

The converted heavy metal frontman;

The nun ministering in India;

The beggar who has more wealth than Buffet;

The high school student rejecting peer pressure.

Your righteousness can grow in the driest of deserts –

can flourish with but a drop of hope and faith.

Soli Deo gloria – II

Two

When I come to You with prayer:

during hectic times, anxious times or

peaceful times – You listen.

You listen when I am weak

You listen when I falter

You listen when I am praying with joy

Lord, You are my Father and Your ears

are never too busy to hear me

Whether I am seven, seventeen or seventy-one:

You listen to Your child’s prayer

I am overcome with awe that You

would consider my prayer to be meaningful,

even though it might seem trivial.

You care more about the small,

Seemingly insignificant details of life

than I could ever imagine

Praise You Lord, for You

listen to the utterances of a sinner
